This Girl

The Story Behind The Name:

When I turned 25 I decided to get my first tattoo.

I had wanted the same design for almost 10 years and decided that with my quarter century milestone that I needed to do something BIG. When I finally chose my artist, Omar, I had him draw it out for me. I was describing what kind of fish I wanted. Something realistic, with blue and green coloring, with flowing fins. Something pretty. Something dreamy. Something me. Out of our conversation came the line A Fish Who Likes Flowers. It was a sentence that made me and my friend giggle, but it fit so well that it's a name that I've adopted.

I am... a dreamer, a hopeless romantic, a lover, a fighter, a widow, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a little shy at first, a proud Oregonian, an over user of the words awesome and seriously, a Dutch Bros. Coffee addict, an animal lover, a sewer, a knitter, a crafter, a shoulder to lean on, a good hugger, a shoe-a-holic, a strong woman, a music listener, a writer, an observer, that girl behind the camera, a Portland Trailblazer fan, a giggler, a reader, a beach lover, an optimist, a whiskey and Pepsi drinker, a sympathetic crier, and a Pisces.

The Main Characters:
Bethany AKA A Fish Who Likes Flowers

Yeah, this blog is all about me, my crazy ideas and my journey of the heart that life has been leading me on lately. I love to create beautiful things, mostly for others, and share the pictures with the world. My life was forever changed in October 2012, when I lost my husband Matthew to cancer, but I am picking up the pieces and putting my life back together, little by little, day by day.

Matthew AKA ABF

My husband, Matthew, lost his year and a half long battle with pancreatic cancer in October 2012. He put up such a valiant fight, and will always be my hero for his effort. You can read a little beautifully written tribute to him here. I miss him every day.

Our Dog, Luna

Yes, she wears a diaper, but it's not her fault she became incontinent after she was spayed. I love her anyway. Most of the time she probably thinks I'm crazy. But she always loves playing fetch, long walks and car rides and the nice baristas that work at Dutch Bros. that always give her a treat (or two.)

This is my glue gun, Debra. My niece named her Debra because she thought the name rhymed with Zebra. You can read about how we found each other here

Seriously, one of the best Christmas gifts I've ever received! And definitely, one of my crafting besties. We've bonded over freezer paper stenciling and vinyl projects. Don't know what I'd do without it!

My stolen crafting partner! You can read about our first crafting endeavor here and how the Viking came to live at my house here
