Cutest Flower Girl Ever!!!

My niece Kirra is going to be the flower girl for our wedding. Since our wedding is going to be kind of casual, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on the perfect dress, so we bought her a cute little dress and altered it a little.

We found the cutest little layered sun dress at the Carter's Outlet store on clearance! Even though the little flower was the perfect color to compliment my wedding color scheme, I wanted to make it different.

All I did was make a few sunflower pins and pinned them onto the dress, so they can be removed after she's worn it for the wedding!

I also made her a sunflower kissing ball to carry down the aisle (because I don't want anyone to have to pick up flower petals.)

I love how it turned out!

I'm getting so excited... 40 days and counting!!!

Scrub -A- Dub Dub

The last couple years for Christmas, Amazing Boyfriend Fiance and I have done any Christmas shopping at the local holiday market. I also happen to pick up little things for my Mom's stocking while I'm at the holiday market or at craft shows.

This last year, I got her a bar of felted soap. I didn't think anything of it, but awhile back she mentioned that she was almost out of her felted soap and that she needed to get more.

Instead of trying to find a crafter that makes felted soap, I figured that I'd just felt some myself. I couldn't be that hard, right?

Didn't I do a great job?

(Totally sarcasm, by the way.)

Yeah, this craft totally didn't turn out the way that I wanted, but I plowed through it attempted to do the best I could. I followed this tutorial, although I didn't try to make a shape. I attempted a marbled look. I did learn a few things, however and think I'm going to re-attempt this using a different type of soap and less roving.

In the mean time, you're all welcome to laugh at me...

Have you ever had a major craft fail?

Long Live Summer {Traditions}!!!

There are some summer traditions that you just don't mess with.

4th of July BBQ at my parents.

Family reunion weekend.

Ice cream every chance you get.

My favorite summer tradition is the Bush Park Art Fair!

Art Fair 2011

My Mom and I go together every year. She's been taking me since I was little and she had to pull me in my wagon. It's my favorite tradition because it's quality time I get to spend with my Mom and a creative recharge because being around all these beautiful creative ideas will definitely get your creativity flowing.

I wish I could have gotten a picture to show you the AMAZING metal shoe sculptures that one artist had, but they had a sign requesting their art not to be photographed and I'm going to respect that. I wish I could have brought one home, alas the price was WAY out of my price range, but a girl can dream, even if it's about metal shoes!

I had such a wonderful time wandering through the booths with my Mom, and I already look forward to going back next year.

What are your favorite summer traditions?

Meet My Newest Frenemy...

For Christmas last year, my parents bought me a Yudu screen print machine. (Yes, I know, I'm spoiled, moving on...)

Thinking that I'm the awesome crafter that I am, I've attempted a few different screen print projects with my machine, which I renamed Yoda.

Most projects have ended in disaster...

ruined fabric...

cursing...

maybe even (I'll admit it) tears a time or two...

The latest victim of Yoda's wrath was my cousin's wedding gift, which ended up in the garbage. Guess I'm off to buy her a gift card in the morning.

What was your latest crafting fail/ setback?

I Love You, A Bushel And A Peck

I've seen several of these projects via Pinterest or on other blogs and recently got around to making a few cute little signs of my own. It helps that I had a ton of canvases laying around from a $2 mystery Michael's bag. (Score!)

I cut up a few yarn magazines and I'd been sent, making sure the pictures were colorful.

Then I decoupaged those pictures to the top of the canvases.

Once the canvases were dried, I applied a saying using contact paper that I bought from the dollar store and cut out with my Silhouette machine.

Then I painted over the entire canvas...

And peeled the contact paper up to show the colorful pictures underneath.

My cousin, Maggie requested an orange sign that said, 'I Love You, A Bushel And A Peck.' I thought it was a cute saying so of course I made it for her.

To be honest, I think it would have turned out better if I'd have used a lighter picture as a background, or used a lighter paint for the top coat.

I made a few other signs while I was at it.

This saying is one that makes me think of Amazing Boyfriend Fiance!

I know a 13 year old that is going to LOVE having this in her room!

I have ideas to make a few more of these, possibly using lighter pictures and darker paint colors. But these signs were a lot of fun to make.

Much Cuter In Person... I Swear!

Awhile back on a random shopping adventure at our local Bi-Mart store, I ran across this in the scrap booking clearance display.

I also happened to have a bottle of Martha Stewart chalkboard paint in blue that I'd been wanting to test out.

Add the two together and what do you have?

A chalkboard pennant banner!

Wanna see how I did it?

Supplies:
chipboard pennant flags
chalkboard paint
twine
paint brush or sponge brush

I started out by painting the pennant flags.  I painted two coats on each side and let them dry overnight.

I cut a long piece of twine. I cut mine about 9 feet, but you can make yours however long you like.

Once the flags were dry, I strung the twine through them.

All that's left to do is write a message in chalk and hang it up!

It looks much better in person, I swear!
